The purpose of this app is threefold:
1) as an assessment tool. In less than five minutes the teacher/parent and student have a snapshot of how fluent the student is with multiplication facts.
2) as a learning tool. The app can be used to introduce the multiplication facts.
3) to help students practice basic multiplication facts and track their progress toward ever greater fluency.
Start by entering the name of a student. The app was designed for classroom and will accommodate any number of students. However, it is just as suitable for use in a family or for homeschoolers.
Initially, the student is presented problems in this order . . .
This pattern continues until 9 x 9, the 55th problem.
0 x 0, 0 x 1, 1 x 1, 0 x 2, 1 x 2, 2 x 2, 0 x 3, 1 x 3, etc.
A record is kept of the last three practice sessions; including type of drill (Order: still trying to learn all the multiplication facts, or Random: know the facts but working toward better fluency). Problems correct, problems completed, date of practice, and time it took to complete.
Points are awarded for: the number of correct responses,
for completing an entire practice with fewer than five mistakes - the fewer the mistakes the higher the score.
There is also a 'bonus' for completing a practice in under 4 minutes, and even more points for completing a practice in under 3 minutes 30 seconds.
These points are just for fun, but a teacher or parent may use it to incentivize practice!
When a student presses an incorrect digit the correct number appears in purple, and remains until the student presses the correct digit.
The student continues to work through this pattern until they can go through making less than 5 mistakes. Then the student will work the same pattern only each number group will be presented in random order.
